Abstract:
Role of (grand)parent in your future? Give the lifelong gift of language, but plan ahead! Review research, hear suggestions, and enjoy video clips from bilingual families. Allow information to influence your classroom teaching and increase advocacy for non-native English speakers.

Language learning doesn't happen by accident, nor is cultural competence magically acquired. Experience practical activities and rubrics to implement immediately in your classroom. Leave ready to make the connection between language and culture more explicit in your teaching.

African Diaspora in the Americas: Touch the Drum. Feel the Energy. Connect culturally. (Workshop) Abstract: The inextricable nature of language and culture beckons us to rethink how we integrate the two in order to develop students’ intercultural competences. Learn about the African diaspora in the Americas. As an ensemble, play the “Peruvian” cajón. In Spanish.
